From the, Oh-I-Am-Very-Surprised Department:
WASHINGTON--Internal Revenue Service employees using thousands of computers accessed prohibited Web sites that included personal e-mail, sexually explicit sites and games. To Treasury investigators, it was a sign that ''significant misuse'' of the Internet continues after a crackdown a year ago."Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work." - Peter Posted by Tim at June 21, 2003 01:48 PM | TrackBackThe results of the Treasury Department investigation disappointed lawmakers who pushed the IRS to revise its Internet policies and block access to prohibited sites after a study in 2001 showed IRS employees spent more than half their workday on the Internet for personal reasons.
''Nobody should collect a government salary to sit on their behinds and play around in chat rooms,'' said Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), who oversees the Treasury Department and IRS.
"We cannot believe employees would waste computer resources like this," says Roger Hays, head of the IRS internal audit, while minimizing a solitare window on his computer. "We cannot beleive our government employees would think this kind of behavior is appropriate."
After the interview, much mouse clicking was heard eminating from his office...
Posted by: Bob Parker at June 22, 2003 02:47 PMYou would be very surprised to what behavior happens within the IRS. I worked for the IRS in the KC service center and I could tell you more horror stories than you want to hear.
The mangement stinks and belittl their employees. I have saw a work leader looking at porn sites on his computer ever day. I have had a manager welcome be into her unit as a clerk and then just gave me a training manual for the job of a clerk in the document anaylsis unit. To make a long story short, I was called stupid by one of the main managers for not learning my job fast enough, in which I never recieved any training. I had a manager tell my work leader to put an electric dog collar around my neck and shock me every time she needed me. This is just many various complaints that I have. I could not take anymore bullshitfrom management and I resigned in 2001. TheIRS wonders why they cannot keep employees? Change the management and you will see a great improvement!!
I worked for irs for 19 years. irs management doesn't have a back bone.
All irs management does is reorganize every 18 months they dont have a clue. the irs can change you from a job you like and do well to a job that does fit your skills or personality and you have no choice.
