Don Boudreaux (who I met in March of 2001 at a FEE student seminar) wrote a succinct and concise discourse debunking the myth various commentators and pundits (i.e. Bill Maher) promote: that neo-Marxism is compatible with paleolibertarianism as espoused by Mises, Hayek, et al.
Anyways, regardless as to what side of the fence you sit, at the very least he uses some big words that could possibly be used in a dinner conversation to impress significant others.
It is not quite clear that Dr. Boudreaux debunks the libertarian psychology referenced by Lawler (a critic superior to Bill Maher in every way except, perhaps, hair style). He certainly differentiates between libertarianism and communism in the ways libertarians would like to, and her certainly addresses several of the points-in-practice, but the psychology--one that espouses nature as the enemy of man and progress and freedom as the highest goods--is left largely unnaddressed.
Posted by: John at May 27, 2004 02:40 PMGood point John. Unfortunately I read your trackback at his blog after posting my own post so I hadn't taken into consideration that viewpoint.
I should note however, not all of us were able to attend Berry : )
